Pretty disappointed. 100 percent sure Bale is losing the Oscar. It’ll be similar Michael Keaton losing the rest. I’m not going to bother watching BAFTA or the Oscar.

I really don't think Malek taking SAG has any bearing whatsoever on Oscars. The two are just different crowds. SAG by their nature are naturally way more populist, the Oscars are less so. People keep citing Redmayne trumping Keaton, but Redmayne's was a very successful truly impressive transformation, while Malek's is just a bit cheesy. It's not that powerful, nor impressive enough, nor, in any way he's in a hugely respected or career-overdue type of position. Therefore, I see this race as still wide open.

Yeah, I agree, the thing is people keep citing SAG as showing what “the industry” thinks. But SAG/AFTRA is well over 100,000 people in a union, the vast majority of whom barely work as actors (maybe the odd TV commercial) while AMPAS’ Actors’ branch is like 1500 members total, minuscule in comparison, and who represent the elite of the industry more or less. These are the actors who actually work, who are the people you see acting in your fave TV shows or in the movies. And even they - the Actors’ Branch - only account for around 20% of the total AMPAS membership, apparently. Malek May very well win, but this SAG win is not decisive (I always thought he was going to win SAG). The Vice campaign now needs to remind BAFTA voters that Bale, unlike most of the best British actors, has yet to win at BAFTA. Almost every major British actor/actress in history won there at least once, but not Bale. And they need to push harder on the angle that Bale is one of the ultimate screen chameleons, and deserves to be in the same company as Streep, Day Lewis, and Blanchett as a two-time Oscar winner. And maybe even send out a mass e-mail to AMPAS members with links to one or two of the arious videos on YouTube that show highlights from some of his best performances. That could clinch the perception of him as the total transformer with a vast range.

the more pictures i see with bale and chalamet the more convinced i am bale's going to be cast in dune as duke leto. i know i'm most likely setting myself up for disappointment but it would make sense. bale and villeneuve almost already collaborated in enemy so we know they have a desire to work with each other. tim is obviously a giant fan of bale's so it's possible that he has suggested to denis that bale should be cast in the film. they also resemble each other quite a lot which means they could pass for a father-son combo. also as of yet dune doesn't have any big stars in it. it'll be a big film so they should get an actor who they can market. chalamet's a rising star but hasn't had a big tentpole film yet. rebecca ferguson will also be in the film and while she's recognizable she isn't a selling point. and the rest of the cast (so far) mostly consists of respect character actors. bale could be the big name actor to incite some excitement. villeneuve has been making some great films lately so i'd like to see bale collaborate with him. plus dune is villeneuve's passion project which makes me even more excited for it.
it's unfortunate bale didn't win but that pic with viggo more than makes up for the loss. i'd say malek is now the frontrunner though bale still has a chance. i don't see malek losing at the baftas. even though awards wise bohemian rhapsody isn't the power house that the king's speech was when bale lost to rush, freddie mercury is still a british icon and i don't see them voting against him. the academy is another matter but now that malek has won the sag and will most likely win the bafta he's gaining some momentum which could factor in come oscar time. perhaps the academy could give the award to someone else if they think malek winning for lead actor would be too soon for him as he doesn't have a prestigious body of work. if that's the case bale is the obvious choice. after all vice did very well with the nominations and bale's the only other actor besides malek who's been winning precursors.

He can win but BAFTA is crucial, no way he wins oscar without a single industry award. Fact now is also that Adams looks done for best supporting actrees so Bale is the only way they can reward the acting of the movie.

Yes, he did. I'm happy he's doing it for McKay, those two clearly have a very good relationship, and personally I also find McKay to be adorable, so I'm glad.
