Hi y'all. A while ago I read a film critic's analysis of the mouthwash scene (before the Shakespeare one) as to how terrifying Bale was in it. I think I failed to archive it here and now can't find it on Google ... Does anyone remember reading something like that can any of you link up to it if you know? Tuulia ripley The Low Dweller @ nathanmorgandrake thedarkknight fernanda Sorry, I haven't seen it.

vice could conceivably take home 1-3 awards come oscar night: best leading actor, best supporting actress and best makeup & hairstyling. vice's overperformance with the nominations bodes well for bale.

Hey, guys, I found that article late night. Thanks.
Congratulations to all of you for these noms. Anyone pleasantly surprised by any?
The directors noms show how basically all the passion picks got in. It's easy to see how Farrelly and Cooper didn't elicit as much passion as did all other five.
Have you any of you seen At Eternity's Gate? What do you make of his getting in? Is he a threat to Bale?
Even though I don't count Rockwell as a very inspired choice, I don't see who else. I mean Chalamet's film went nowhere, his perf had detractors, he literally began last year. His snub is not even a snub really. I'm rooting for Grant in this category sight unseen.
Makeup win looks like a lockdown. Bale too pretty much. If Bale wins SAG it's over. Anyone else ... I'll still give him a shot.

No, Dafoe is by no means a threat to victory, it was already very surprising that he was nominated.

I’m really happy that Bale, Mckay, Rockwell and Adams got nominated! I’m still not sure if Bale will win. I’m probably going to skip watching the Oscars in case I get really annoyed with Malek winning since all the Malek fans won’t shut up about him. Malek was stellar but his fans have been obnoxious.

I do not know exactly where to put this, mods can change. I believe Bale was once in contention for this. Wondering if he can still do this project.

Malek will be fine since he didn’t do anything. If Casey Affleck could win then Malek could win the lottery and get struck by lightning

As I predicted, SAG went with Rami Malek.
(Though i erroneously thought Hawke or JD Washington would be nommed for an Oscar, instead it was Willem Dafoe)
Not sure what this means. SAG wins usually but not always match Oscars, however there is almost no actual overlap of membership between the two organizations so thats not the reason. There are over 100,000 SAG members who can vote, but less than 2000 actors in the Academy, plus lots of other branches like directors, writers, etc.
And obviously SAG winner Emily Blunt is not winning since she’s not even nominated.
There are loads of negative stories about Bryan Singer coming out, but I’m not sure how it will affect Malek.

If Bale had never won, that race would be over. I do not really have any more expectations of Bale winning the Oscar, maybe SAG, that would be nice. I also do not even know if I want him to win for such a controversial movie and for what would be best remembered for being another physical transformation. I hope he is truly finished with this weight fluctuation for roles. When he wins again I wish he would be at The Fighter, with a total sweep of critics and industry. I'm already happy with the acclaim of Bale's performance and in my opinion this starts building his due to win in Lead Actor next time. Good sentiments, apart from the simple fact that he simply is the best of the year's Best Actor bunch especially if Hawke is not nominated. I don't think that kind of sweep will ever happen again for any of the already-won actors unless it's Lincoln level. Bale was in the position back then, Hawke is more or less now except that his film, thus his perf, has been ignored by the industry. If The Fighter came out now (after he'd already won for something else) it could've been minimized rather than highlighted and the film's flaws would be overblown to ensure that effect (just like it's happening with Vice now). The critics always settle on *causes from early on and rally behind them from early on. Usually it's some overdue, rarely rewarded actor (Hawke this year) or some extraordinary one by a newcomer (like Chalamet last year). What the industry prefers/ignore this year ... we can only find out on Oscar night. I'll have no problems with his win At All. It should be judged on it's own merits and in comparison to the nominated group. That's all Day Lewis is the only one they revere to the point of showering him with awards again and again. Yes, that includes even Meryl Streep who everyone pays lip service to as the best actress, however that gushing in print by reviewers has surprisingly not been reflected in any significant critics’ sweeps for any particular performance she’s given. Anyone else but DDL, the critics have yet to give a sweep to a second time once they’ve done it once. Bale would be sweeping this year had he not already had his big sweep year with The Fighter. Instead the went looking for an overlooked veteran, found it with Hawke, gave him dozens of awards, and then watched him get snubbed anyway. I’d be happy to see Bale just take it this time, with or without the critical backing. Critics are not God, and performances that win without their support are often worthier winners than those with it e.g. Adrien Brody was great in The Pianist, but he won that with literally zero precursor support (the critics - big surprise - mostly shot their wad for.... can you guess? Daniel Day Lewis). Unfortunately I think Malek is still in front. But Bale is the only other challenger.
