Scott Cooper and Guillermo Del Torro had a talk a while ago in which they shared an interesting idea for a Poe movie. Just leaving this here as this totally could be a potential vehicle for Bale, at least on the level of the talks. www.denofgeek.com/movies/scott-cooper-guillermo-del-toro-want-edgar-allan-poe-movie/The talk also mentions of two other movies in conceptual stage that Cooper is planning with Bale. Gotta say, until Cooper raises his games, these news are not that exciting but they just speak of Bale's generosity in sharing his talents with his friend filmmakers in their quests for their art.

i agree with your last point 100%. It's still crazy to me that bale worked with scott cooper on hostiles after out of the furnace bombed. Many big stars would never collaborate with directors after their initial collaboration turned out to be a failure.
Speaking of scott cooper, he has this ability to make movies that are neither commercially successful nor critically acclaimed. Someone like james gray has the same ability and that's an ability no one wants.
So why would bale wanna collaborate with him a third time is strange to me.

Bale is totally not the movie star we expect. In fact he seems to abhor both "movie star" and "prestige actor" expectations. He just does what catches his fancy while his off-screen friendships also play a big role. He became best friends with Cooper during OoTF and still is to the point of both families visiting each other and all. It's his enormous talent that he's always a threat for a nomination despite his eclectic style.
