I like this critique from the THR review at IMDb: - A film as poorly thought out as "Equilibrium" makes you realize how beautifully imagined and densely observed the future was in "Minority Report". Nothing makes sense in Libria. If all reading material is banned, how do its citizens achieve their literacy? If all emotions are suppressed by drugs, what accounts for the constant displays of anger? If all passion is doused, how do marriage and propagation of the species manage to continue? Most importantly, if all violent urges have been suppressed, then why is the movie so violent? But I don't agree with their critique of Bale's performance: - Bale all too easily plays the zombie enforcer but never finds a convincing way to play his emerging emotions. Diggs' moral righteousness strikes the appropriate cord. Watson gives dash and vigor to a small role, but what is she even doing in this movie?I thought that all the scenes depicting Bale's breakthrough of feeling were very effective especially the classical music scene.

Some Equilibrium easter eggs: In the first few minutes of the movie, when the screen is black after Preston kicks down the door and the police shoot out the lights, you can hear two people whispering back and force. One of the voices is the director.
When the police break into Preston's home, and Preston get's a gun up to one of their necks, the officer hurriedly explains that they have a warrant. The voice is that of the director.
In the warehouse scene, when Preston is trying to convince the sense-offenders to escape, the shot cuts to a man being shot by a police guy. The man being shot is the director. The officer shooting him is Christian Bale (Preston)'s stunt double.
Most of the military vehicles in the movie are actually fire fighting vehicles from an airport near where Equilibrium was filmed.

This ended up being a really good film. I was pleasantly surprised.

Another coolly appreciative take from The Guardian's Hear Me Out 2021 series in favor of critical/B.O flops: www.theguardian.com/film/2021/may/24/equilibrium-hear-me-out-christian-baleEspecially wanted to highlight this cute conclusion statement: "In some other not-too-distant future, Bale will inevitably receive at least one lifetime achievement award. When they crank up the highlight reel featuring The Fighter, Vice, The Dark Knight and all the rest, there had better be some puppy love for Equilibrium or I will start my own revolution."
