bale can't seem to get away from ferrari though by the sound of it ford and ferrari will only be minor characters in this film and the emphasis will be on ken miles and carroll shelby.
if mangold does decide to do the film i'm sure he'll offer the part to bale, as they seem eager to work together again, and i can see bale accepting. we know he likes to race motorbikes and car racing is fairly similar so playing a race car driver could be of interest to him. and bale did almost star in the silver ghost in which he would've played john montagu, a motoring enthusiast. also, isn't bale a fan of steve mcqueen? mcqueen had a fondness of cars and racing and did a film about le mans, so maybe that could also factor in. plus ken miles seems like an interesting character. born in britain but later became a u.s. citizen (like bale), served as a tank sergeant in world war ii, won plenty of races, "he was renowned for speaking his mind and developing racing cars". a character bale could possibly be obsessed with.
getting to see a bale and damon collaboration with mangold no less would be quite exciting. there's a fifteen minute video the grand tour did about the whole ford vs. ferrari at le mans and it shows that the whole affair was rife with drama and could make for a great film.

Wow you really got me excited about this. And yes a collab with Matt Damon seems juicy. Could turn into something cool.

according to variety, phedon papamichael will be the cinematographer on this ford vs ferrari project. the article also says that papamichael will be directing a film that's currently set to shoot in the fall, but that he'll be doing the ford vs ferrari film next which, i take it, would mean that they'd have to shoot it in the summer at the latest. if that's the case, we should be hearing within a few months whether or not bale will be doing this film.

Hostiles just is out in France and he gave some interviews. In one of these,he says he will make a THIRD movie with a director with who he already worked so it is between Cooper,DOR ,Haynes,Malick,McKay and Nolan ( Batman movies counting for one movie) I’ll post the interview next week because it would be free ( this interview is in the style of David Poland’s interviews)

here's what bale said in the interview (google translated, so it's rough):
based on the interview it's hard to say if this will be bale's next film or if he'll shoot something before it. he does say it's too soon to talk about it but that could be just because his casting hasn't been officially announced yet. but the mere fact that bale mentioned this project is a good sign as he doesn't seem the type to talk about potential films that aren't almost certainly going to happen and if that's the case here i'm guessing this film will be happening sooner rather than later.
i would say scott cooper is the strongest possibility followed by russell. i think nolan won't start filming his next until 2019 while mckay and malick are working on previous projects and haynes' next looks to be a documentary.
scott cooper is a big possibility as he has that mlk assassination film lined up and according to some article it should start filming this spring. obviously cooper and bale are friends who love working together so if there's a role in there that bale likes i think he wouldn't hesitate to do it. bale would be around the same age as the assassin, james earl ray, was at the time. he could be an interesting character to play.
adam mckay should be busy working on backseat for the rest of the year. mckay has plenty of projects in pre-production but i believe it's that jennifer lawrence film that's going to be his next. i think that film was put on hold partly so that the whole elizabeth holmes affair would get some kind of a conclusion on the lawsuit front so that mckay would be able to write an ending for the film which has now happened or at least there's been some type of movement to that end recently.
todd haynes and bale were rumored to team up for a third time for act of god way back when but that project never materialized. haynes moved on to other things and currently has a peggy lee film lined up with reese witherspoon as the lead. but that project was announced a few years back and there hasn't been any new info on it for a long time. more recently it was announced that haynes would be making a documentary on the band velvet underground which is what he's probably working on now.
terrence malick is currently in post production with his latest film. according to imdb it's set to be released some time this year but since it's malick we're talking about here the film could very well come out in 2020 for all we know. if malick actually does complete the film this year he could possibly start working on another project fairly soon as he has become very prolific in recent years.
david o. russell does have a few projects in development but nothing's been announced as his next directorial effort. his amazon tv series fell through after the whole weinstein expose came out. if memory serves, during the american hustle promotional tour russell did talk about some project he wanted bale, cooper, lawrence and a bunch of his usual collaborators to star in but so far nothing's come of that. jennifer lawrence mentioned in the wtf podcast (https://youtu.be/ficxzmkbRpc?t=48m16s) that she might be working with russell again next fall. russell likes using same actors so it wouldn't be surprising if he's approached bale about this new film.
christopher nolan usually comes out with a new film every 2-3 years so it's possible he'd start production on a new film this year but i have a feeling he'll spend 2018 writing a script and won't start shooting until 2019. would be nice to see them team up again.

I would love it if he worked again with Todd Haney for Act of God. But it will probably be with Scott Cooper.

haynes does write great characters and gets great performances out of his actors but i often find his films somewhat underwhelming. i did love carol though. but that was actually the first film of haynes' that he didn't write himself.
scott cooper mentioned back in august on the kristopher tapley podcast (http://variety.com/2017/film/in-contention/playback-podcast-scott-cooper-hostiles-telluride-1202542514/) that he was in the process of casting for hellhound on his trail but then later in january he said that he was either making hellhound or another film called antlers next. antlers has a female lead so if it's cooper's next film it might be that bale was talking about some other director or that they'll work together only after cooper's done with antlers unless bale wants to play a supporting role in a supernatural horror.

damn, french interviewers are getting all the christian bale scoops. mangold is also attached to direct the force which already has a release date set for march 2019 so i wonder if it's still possible that he'll make that project before the ford vs ferrari film. but it does seem the latter film is more likely going to be his next as it already has a director of photography and bale pretty much confirmed that he'll be playing ken miles. if bale's next working with mangold then it's not so easy to guess which director he's going to be working with for a third time afterwards since there's no telling when that third collaboration will go into production. hell, maybe he'll make two back to back films with mangold.

During another interview,Cooper confirmed his next movie would be with Hostiles's DP and several actors with who he already worked.Surely about Martin Luther King's assassination investigation.

on the imdb page for antlers masanobu takayanagi is already listed as the dp, also listed are tom cross (editor) and francine maisler (casting director). all three worked on hostiles as well. looks like it could very well be antlers that's going to be cooper's next. only time will tell. maybe he'll cast rosamund pike in the lead role.

ford vs. ferrari is moving foward. meanwhile scott cooper says antlers will probably be his next film so if he and bale will work together again in hellhound on his trail it most likely wont happen for awhile. rosamund pike mentioned in an interview that brad anderson (director of the machinist) and bale have wanted to do another film together. they did plan on re-teaming for an adaptation of the j.g. ballard novel concrete island but nothing came of that in the end. there's always a chance they'll collaborate again in the future.
