Found this Bale mention in a book review, d. SEPT. 30, 2001, by STEPHANIE ZACHAREK: By the end of the book, Carter, a man who lives his life in the shadow of illusion, is nothing less than vivid and perfectly rounded to us. (I'm already hoping that Christian Bale will get to play him in the movie version.) One of the things we've learned about Carter is that, partly thanks to the guidance of his mother, he refuses to saw a woman in half onstage: he sees the act as misogynist._____________________________________ I'd never heard of the book but it turns out the book is about a real-life magician Charles Carter. I don't think this novel has ever been adapted while Bale has already played the most popular movie magician ever!
