I'm still reeling over the fact that Bale chose not to throw himself into Aaron Sorkin's wordy script and did not become Jobs for us. If he had, I'm sure he would have created enough buzz and excitement through his sheer performance coupled with his natural similarity with Jobs, to give the movie much better legs than Fassbender could. Plus, he would have been some real competition come Oscar night to DiCaprio. It would have been an epic nailbiter to the finish. Here's the original Bloomberg video that gave us the premature good news in Sorkin's words that Bale was to "crush" as Steve Jobs:

THR dropping out report: Sources say Bale, after much deliberation and conflicting feelings, came to the conclusion he was not right for the part and decided to withdraw. The script is said to be divided into three acts that detail Jobs preparing for three presentations that came to define his life and the life of the company he co-founded, lost and came back to.On Oct. 23, Sorkin told Bloomberg TV that Bale was playing Jobs. ____________ I still wonder why Bale concluded he wasn't right of the part. There were rumors of Jobs' widow getting in touch with Bale to dissuade him. But Bale's own explanation does ring true to me. Did he think, he couldn't do justice to the wordy script in the preparation time he was given? Did a combination of his own typical hesitation, the Big Short offer, and the widow interfering lean his decision in a certain way? I wish he would open up about this some day.

Such a great, fun write-up from when Bale passed on the Jobs movie: grantland.com/hollywood-prospectus/christian-bale-is-out-so-should-we-be-worried-about-the-steve-jobs-movie/For e.g.: "On Monday, The Hollywood Reporter let us in on some unfortunate news: Christian Bale is walking away from the upcoming Steve Jobs biopic. According to THR’s sources, the actor “after much deliberation and conflicting feelings … came to the conclusion he was not right for the part and decided to withdraw.” There may yet be some behind-the-scenes intrigue revealed as to why Bale is, ahem, bailing (HIGH FIVE). But for now, taking the fellow at his word, let us just say: This is a bummer. You can knock the dude for his infamous outburst (on the set of the pointless Terminator Salvation, no less!) and the underlying grim overseriousness that follows him around and therefore predicated that kind of thing. You can knock him for his insane physical transformations, which certainly can come off as grandiose and gimmicky. But you can’t really deny that Bale disappears into a role like no other working actor this side of Daniel Day-Lewis. We don’t need to do the full IMDb tick-off right now; let’s just try to remember that time a guy born in Wales’s Pembrokeshire County straight-up became a crack-addicted ex-boxer from Lowell, Massachusetts."
