From a Guardian report of a press conference for The Dark Knight, that took place a day before CB's arrest on Tuesday, 22 July, 2008: www.theguardian.com/film/2008/jul/23/dark.knight1It's been a busy few days for Christian Bale. On Sunday he allegedly assaulted his mother and sister - for which he was arrested on Tuesday. On Monday he went to the premiere of The Dark Knight, and earlier in the day he conducted a press conference.
I was there. Outside the Dorchester there was no sign of the swarm of paparazzi that were to descend later the next day. Merely a few savvy fans hanging outside the hotel for a glimpse of their idol.
Indeed the only indication that something was amiss was Bale's fidgety, squirmy bearing.
He had a tendency to speak in gruff, unintelligible tones, through his fingers, slumped in his seat.
But those members of the cast not facing handcuffs and awkward questions in the near future showed no visible signs of fatigue as they answered questions about the film.

In his first statement since accusations were made that he assaulted his mother and sister, Christian Bale asked for privacy on Thursday, The Associated Press reported. In Barcelona, Spain, to promote “The Dark Knight,” Mr. Bale, who plays Batman in the film, said the incident was a “deeply personal matter” and did not answer further questions. He added, “I would ask you to respect my privacy in the matter.” Following allegations that he assaulted his mother and one of his three sisters in a suite at the Dorchester Hotel in London, Mr. Bale, 34, spent four hours talking to British police on Tuesday. He was released on bail but not charged. Through his lawyers, he said that the allegations are false.www.nytimes.com/2008/07/25/movies/25arts-BATMANACTORS_BRF.html

No Charges Filed Against the Dark Knight Compiled by JULIE BLOO MAUG. 14, 2008
Christian Bale, below, the star of Warner Brothers’ most recent Batman movie, “The Dark Knight,” will not face charges relating to a reported assault, The Associated Press reported. The Crown Prosecution Service in Britain has ordered the police not to take further action against the actor, saying there was insufficient evidence to afford “realistic prospect of conviction.” Mr. Bale was arrested last month and questioned about whether he had assaulted his mother and sister at the Dorchester Hotel in London on July 21, a day before the premiere there of “The Dark Knight.” Mr. Bale, who denied assaulting anyone, said he voluntarily submitted to police questioning the day after the premiere and was released without being charged.www.nytimes.com/2008/08/15/arts/15arts-NOCHARGESFIL_BRF.html
