and now this needs to find a good distributor, quick. Bale and pike would have many chances to be nominated.

wonderful to hear all this positive reactions. hopefully they'll transition into good reviews as well. it's been a short while since bale's played the lead in a critically acclaimed film. so excited by these reactions. hoping that the actual reviews will remain positive. Someone remembers if OOTF and black mass had that type of reaction in the first reactions? iirc out of the furnace got pretty mixed reviews from the get go though at first they were slightly more positive on rotten tomatoes than the percentage it ended up with.

Yeah Out of the Furnace wasn't close to getting the praise this one is getting. The acting got good notices but critics weren't too keen on the film itself.

It's possible to edit posts, you know... And the other movies at Telluride weren't universally loved, either, btw. Anyway... Variety, September 4, 2017Weird? Okay...

wow, great compliment to bale on it. I hope Annapurna pick this. it would be really sad if Bale and Pike lost a nomination for lack of a good distributor.

SPOILER WARNING from Indiewire review. If you don't want to get spoiled then avoid the link. I apologize for not mentioning it earlier. I hate when the reviews spoil a movie. I read someone complained about this review because of the spoilers

Yeah the indiewire writer seems like someone who doesn't care that he spoils things. He even wrote that it wasn't a spoiler but it obviously is by writing the details about a certain situation happening. What a jerk.
And Tuulia, it's Scott Cooper we're talking about here. He hasn't had a good movie since Crazy Heart. Out of the furnace had great performances but the movie wasn't that great and Black Mass was okay. Again Cooper knows how to bring actors to their A game which is evident. It was great seeing Johnny Depp play a serious role again.

My point was that even the most praised movies at Telluride weren't universally loved. Hostiles was one of those that was praised the most, but everyone was never going to love it. Everyone didn't love anything else, either. A couple of people with merely "kinda liked it" opinions is no big deal. Every movie, no matter how praised, is likely to get that (or even hate), too. The general reception was very, very good, and that matters. It was much better than I would have expected, since I knew it wasn't likely to be always easy to watch and certainly not general crowd pleasing entertainment.
I disagree about Cooper not having made a good movie since Crazy Heart, and I know I'm not the only one, but that's neither here nor there in this context. Hostiles has been called Cooper's best, and most people who have commented were really impressed (they haven't been just mildly polite, but more in the vein of "wow"), including some who didn't even expect to like it that much. So that's good. Of course some will dislike it or be meh about it as well.

Good point Tuulia. I'm just hoping Bale and Pike get nominations because this movie sounds like it'll have incredible acting and cinematography. I truly hope it gets a distributor soon and not be released in the Spring like The Promise

I already posted this guy's first comment, but here it is again: Then, some 6 hours later: And a couple of hours later: Not the first person with similar reaction - that it stays with you. Cooper will be happy to hear that, that's what he wants to do with his movies.
