Ok I am so excited for this! The story sounds very interesting, and I have always wanted Bale to do a detective type film. Not sure how young Edgar Allan Poe will be in the film, but maybe Timothee Chalamet? After all, he did feature in Hostiles and Cooper likes to cast actors he has previously worked with before...

I have to be cautious as Cooper hasn't yet blown me away with any of his films including Black Mass which I had VERY high hopes for... He'd really have to up his game.
Also, I was kinda sorta wishing for Bale to escape his friends' circle and work with someone - anyone - else of stature with whom he had never worked before...

I want to be hopeful but this press statement from scott cooper is not helping me....moving on from genre to genre is something you boast only if you have done it to acclaim many or atleast few of those movies...not when you do mediocre work. What good is saying "I made a western, a gangster movie, a country movie and a crime movie" when none of them are impressive or worthwhile....this scott cooper just dont has it in him to make great movies and bale's stubbornness is evident in choosing to work with scott cooper after their first collaboration bombed and their second collaboration struggled to get a distributor even after premiering in all film festivals.
I dont know if any of you here remember, but in 2017 hostiles struggled to find a distributor to release the movie in theaters till last minute until entertainment studios(a new rookie studio) decided to step in. I am guessing this movie will be released straight to streaming.

I really really hope that both are SO busy they end up casting Austin Abrams instead... He's a great actor, the same age, and so much deeper behind the eyes in my opinion. Plus I'm already tired of seeing those two, they are everywhere. Austin is very talented and can add many layers to a role, he's got that depth...

Can I say "Called it!"? Splashy Record deal by Netflix for PBE at the virtual European Film Festival this week where this project was up for sale. In a report a few days ago, Deadline reported PBE as being one of the hot ones at the festivals but there weren't many new/specific details so I didn't post. Don't know how I feel about this huge $55 million buy for Netflix except that I totally believe Netflix is the best fit for this drama, esp since their Oscar game is pretty good too. It's also possible that Netflix too felt extra interested due to Bale's great Oscar record. But who really knows... this is all speculation on our part deadline.com/2021/03/netflix-christian-bale-pale-blue-eye-record-efm-deal-1234707264/

I dont believe a scott cooper movie will have an oscar buzz until it happens. He is in the same boat as james gray for me. A director who makes neither commercially successful nor awards worthy movies.

this is certainly unexpected. melling's one of those character actors that seems to pop up here and there in supporting roles but has never had a major breatkthrough or even a big starring role that i can think of at the moment. i was expecting someone younger considering that poe would've been in his early twenties at the time the story takes place but i suppose he was an old soul even in his younger days so i guess this could work. can't pretend i find this casting very exiting but i'm willing to give it a shot.

Henry Melling is a great actor and I'm glad the young Poe didn't turn out to be an overly familiar actor such as Chalamet. I totally dig this. Now I only wish this film has substance and Cooper's style doesn't dull its spark and that Bale's role is a juicy one.
