what is the source for your claim that bale/russell struggled to get funding for amsterdam ? by the look of the cast...this looks like a high profile project that fox is lucky to get. arnon milchan is also a very good and picky producer. So I am not sure where you are getting your information from. Speaking of thor.....bale needs to be in blockbusters right now so he can guarantee funding for his future projects. So it doesn't matter if he is playing a mocap role or not he needs a blockbuster right now. at this point in his career I don't think he needs that kind of film if he doesn't want to do it. it is likely that he accepted this to work with taika It's just that Russel could not find funding for his project at all until Disney's 20th Century agreed. At the same time we heard of Bale's casting. It all adds up is all I'm saying He could have agreed to help Russel get the film made.

Getting emmanuel lubezki and hildur as behind the scenes talent doesn't sound like david o russell is struggling to make the movie. I agree that follow up to joy was not exactly something that would attract talent but still the fact that he took 5 yrs break is exactly how he should do. Hopefully he reinvented himself again just like tarantino did after death proof. The only way to top the hot oscar streak of fighter, silver linings and american hustle is to take 5 yr break. You dont beat that streak by making movies every year.

I have to agree with you here. But I'm worried there being no script at all, and yet his production HAS attracted an insane amount of talent... May be there is something here... Fingers crossed

Bale and Margot on the set. Is he looking thin again? God I hope not, because seriously ...

I think he is not thin...his suit is loose and he might be in his normal weight.

He's been looking a bit thin since the FvF days, no? I'm not seeing much difference from last year...

Isn't Bale looking a lot like Ethan Hawke here? I'm also getting some strong Alfred Borden vibes, maybe because of the get up and the sardonic expression where they're interrupting Margot's fall.

once again bale's changed up his physicality. he's slouched and hunched forward and looks to be walking with his feet farther apart than usual. he does look a bit on the thin side. maybe not quite the-fighter thin but something like he was in ford v. ferrari or out of the furnace.
i wonder if this will take place during the great depression and bale's character has fallen on hard times. his clothes are more loose fitting and less stylish than robbie's or washington's. maybe the character has lost weight and fortune and has to use older clothing that doesn't fit him anymore.
looking at these pics i kind of get the impression that someone's being conned by the other two but i have no idea who. i just wish we'd get an official synopsis of the film. why are they being so secretive?
this film will be the sixth period piece bale's made in succession. vice did partly take place in the 21st century but a lot of it was set during the previous century so i'm counting it as one of the six. the big short was the last contemporary movie bale's made but thor 4 will bring a change to that.

yeah...i saw a costume fitting photo from an extra's instagram page and she says it takes place in the 1930s aka during the great depression. Getting slapstick comedy vibes. So even if the movie is very good, there is no way it's gonna be the one to get bale lead oscar because these kind of roles lacks gravitas.
I am not sure if david o russell is telling the story by using elements that are true to the time period or he is just using the time period as backdrop to tell his own story like american hustle. The latter will not be met with positive reaction because it will just feel like a david o russell movie with no connection to the backdrop aka the great depression. Hopefully that's not the case.

Some unrecognizable actor giving Matt Smith vibes. Any idea who it might be?

I’ve seen the name Canterbury Glass attached to stills of this movie. Not sure if it’s legit or not but it’s quite an interesting title.
