From Vanity Fair's speculative report on this newsbite: www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2017/04/christian-bale-dick-cheneyHow Will Christian Bale Morph into Dick Cheney?
Adam McKay’s Dick Cheney biopic just landed an A-list cast, including Amy Adams, Steve Carell, and . . . Bale as Cheney? by YOHANA DESTA APRIL 6, 2017 8:45 AM
These roles will require physical transformations for each of these actors, who are also all significantly younger than the people they’re portraying. Get ready for a blunt blond bob, Adams. Carell, prepare for rimless glasses, a gray wig, and more than a little older-age makeup.
It‘s Bale, though, who will likely have to undergo the most demanding physical transformation, putting on weight to achieve Cheney’s physique* and getting comfortable in that makeup chair so he can acquire the former V.P.’s almost-bald-but-not-quite-ready-to-let-it-all-go-yet aesthetic.
---
McKay’s film, which the Big Short helmer will write and direct, was announced last November. It’ll trace the arcs of Cheney’s high-profile career, from his C.E.O. days at Haliburton to his appointment as vice president under George W. Bush.
---
In an interview with Vanity Fair, McKay discussed the difficulty of writing the “ambitious” screenplay for this film, considering Cheney’s nature: “He’s a very secretive guy, so one of the big things with this script has been to really read every single thing that’s out there,” the writer/director saif. “I compare it to radio teloscopy, where you kind of look at the gravitational pull on one star and go, ‘Wait a minute, there must be something there that’s causing that. . . .’ It’s really like detective work.”_________________________ It's hard for me to believe Bale's gonna go to the weight-gain route for this one after turning down Ferrari. He didn't do it for freaking Mann! He's not gonna do it for McKay.

Some interesting headlines/tidbits from trades and sites: NEWSWEEK: CHRISTIAN BALE IS IN TALKS TO PLAY HIS SCARIEST ROLE SINCE 'AMERICAN PSYCHO'
Christian Bale may have finally found a character that will make viewers cringe more than Patrick Bateman, the serial killer in American Psycho, did.
---
Though they may not look alike, Bale is quite possibly the only actor on the planet capable of morphing into the old man who epitomizes the word crotchety. ... He's also a Method actor, which is probably the only way anyone stands a chance of inhabiting the mind of an elderly war-mongerer who once shot his friend in the face with a shotgun. Let it be said, though: If Bale falls through, there's always Darrell Hammond.
---
As callous and evil as Cheney is perceived to be, we can assume that the biopic will "humanize" the former VP and that Bale will try to make us feel sympathy for Cheney with his performance.
But maybe, somehow, in some way we cannot currently fathom, understanding the humanity behind Dick Cheney's evil genius could be just what the country needs right now. Because, honestly, now that the Trump era has commenced, we've weirdly (just a little bit) started to appreciate some aspects of George W. Bush—or at least we're nostalgic about the fact that he could read. Who's to say Christian Bale couldn't turn the most loathsome political figure of the past 15 years into an actual human being who is, dare we say, relatable? Anything is possible in Trump's America, after all.
Speaking of George W. Bush: There's no word on who would play him in the Cheney biopic. McKay does have a long history with an actor who knows a thing or two about Dubya, though:
[After a Will Farrell as GW Bush gif]
Please, film gods, let this happen.____________________ Jezebel.com: Christian Bale to Play Dark Knight Again, This Time Dick Cheney jezebel.com/christian-bale-to-play-dark-knight-again-this-time-dic-1794071570Since Bale is a notorious method actor, he’ll have to sink to unthinkable depths of evil to prepare for the role, which could involve him performing his own heart transplant to replace his heart with a rotting one. ____________________ VARIETY: variety.com/2017/film/news/christian-bale-steve-carell-amy-adams-dick-cheney-biopic-adam-mckay-1202009749/McKay has been vocal recently about his countless hours spent researching Cheney and his climb to power, and has been working hard to get Bale on board as the titular politician.____________________ VANITY FAIR: Another Dark Lord Is Getting a Big-Screen Origin Story www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2016/11/adam-mckay-dick-cheney-movieIf The Big Short taught us anything, it’s that McKay will know exactly how to distill and portray the politician’s life on the big screen. News of the politically themed film also comes on the heels of a blistering election cycle and troubling behavior from President-elect Donald Trump. Cheney, by the way, endorsed Trump—though the former veep wasn’t always a big fan of the candidate, mainly because of Trump's comments about 9/11. “He clearly doesn’t understand or has not spent any time learning about the facts of that period,” Cheney said of Trump earlier this year. The silver lining (O.K., perhaps it’s more of a dull-gray lining) to our current political mess? McKay will probably make a great film about it one day. ___________________ A.V.CLUB: www.avclub.com/article/christian-bale-might-play-dick-cheney-adam-mckay-253297Bale would play the Wyoming face-shooter himself, forcing us to wonder what sorts of method-acting techniques—Face-scrunching? Laser-assisted soul blackening?—he might employ to get into the character.
___________________ THe W Magazine: Christian Bale Might Play Dick Cheney (And It Almost Makes Sense) www.wmagazine.com/story/christian-bale-might-play-dick-cheneyDespite the fact that most Dick Cheney impressions could double as a pretty solid take on the Penguin, it's a former Batman himself, Christian Bale, who is in talks to play the former vice president. Sure, the 43-year-old actor is known for his onscreen physical transformations. He's played emaciated in The Mechanist, enviably ripped in American Psycho, and comfortably stout in American Hustle. Yet, this would surely be his most aggressive transformation yet. --- In any event, McKay isn't exactly the type of director who is used to combing the West End looking for the next Mark Rylance for a role. He's a go big or go home kind of guy when it comes to casting. So, Bale as Cheney? Eh, why not? Our real question: Is Ferrell going to revive his George W. Bush impression for this? _____________________ From Screenrant.com: screenrant.com/dick-cheney-movie-christian-bale-amy-adams/Going by McKay’s comments about why he wanted to tell the story of Dick Cheney, one can guess that his film is not going to be a warm and fuzzy depiction of the former VP. Of course, people assumed the same things about Oliver Stone’s George W. Bush film W. and were somewhat surprised when the movie turned out to be largely sympathetic toward the former president; depicting him as less of a villain and more a faintly hapless victim of circumstance. After the originality and quirkiness of The Big Short, it’s tough to guess exactly what Adam McKay might have in mind for his film on Dick Cheney. ____________________ From Slashfilm.com www.slashfilm.com/christian-bale-playing-dick-cheney-for-adam-mckay/Meanwhile, Carell is in talks for the role of Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld while Adams would play Cheney’s wife, Lynne Cheney, who was famously called out by Eminem in one of his rap tracks after she singled him out during congressional testimony. --- However, it may take a little more movie magic to transform the 43-year-old actor into Cheney, who was 60 years old and balding when he served as vice president under Bush. I’m guessing Bale will resort to prosthetics and movie magic, and not try to undergo some horrifying treatment to actually age himself 20 years. --- There are no other details on the Cheney biopic, but hopefully McKay can approach the film with the same wit and intelligence which he showcased in The Big Short. And maybe include another Margot Robbie bathtub scene to explain the intricacies of the Bush administration’s anti-terrorism campaign. _____________________ in progress

Interesting headlines and tidbits Part 2: From Flavorwire: flavorwire.com/602909/christian-bale-steve-carell-and-amy-adams-to-star-in-adam-mckays-dick-cheney-biopicChristian Bale will take on the role of Cheney, presumably after undergoing a grueling physical transformation of some kind or another (his American Hustle wig-maker has probably already been summoned); Bale’s Big Short co-star Steve Carell is reportedly in talks to play Cheney’s partner-in-war-crimes Donald Rumsfeld. (Brad Pitt will sit this one out, though as with Big Short, his Plan B production company is on board.) And just to keep things familiar, Bale’s American Hustle and The Fighter co-star Amy Adams will play wife Lynne Cheney. A left-out David O. Russell must be slamming a door and screaming somewhere. _______________ From RawStory.com: American Psycho II: Christian Bale in talks to play Dick Cheney in biopic www.rawstory.com/2017/04/american-psycho-ii-christian-bale-in-talks-to-play-dick-cheney-in-biopic/_________________ From ScreeCrush.com: screencrush.com/dick-cheney-biopic-bale-adams-carell/Adam McKay’s establishing a reputation as Hollywood’s foremost chronicler of the biggest hot-button issues… of ten years ago. He made blackly satirical mince meat of the subprime lending crisis with The Big Short, stepping back into our recent past to expose the avarice still at play in the world of macro-economics today. And for his next project, he’s going to take aim at a West Wing political player loathed and feared by liberals as a power-mad despot intent on destroying America. No, not him, we’re referring to a different wannabe fascist with the public graces of Darth Vader. To be specific, Dick Cheney. McKay announced that he’d begun work on a Dick Cheney biopic not too long ago, and he took one stop closer to that goal today with the announcement that several big names have entered negotiations to star in the film. Deadline reports that Christian Bale, Amy Adams, and Steve Carell have all been tapped for key roles in the buzzy project. Carell would star as former Defense Secretary Donald “Donny” Rumsfeld, Adams would portray Cheney’s dutiful wife Lynne, and reliable chameleon Bale would transform from this into this as Tricky Dick the Second himself. The film would purportedly chronicle the period of transition for Cheney from his tenure as the chief executive of Halliburton to the Vice Presidency, in which he claimed a then-unprecedented level of power for the office. (“That’s cute,” said Steve Bannon, somewhere.) A born humorist with a penchant for topical commentary, McKay should make a marvelous fit for the alternately absurd and chilling story of Cheney’s rise to power. The Bush administration was a farce when it wasn’t terrifying, and while McKay should be a natural match, Bale remains an odd choice for Cheney. Differences in age and appearance notwithstanding, Bale doesn’t exude that same Hanna-Barbera-bad-guy energy that made Cheney such a captivating figure in the American imagination. But the man’s a consummate pro — if anyone could metamorphose into the physical manifestation of villainy, it’s him. __________________ From JOBlo.com www.joblo.com/movie-news/christian-bale-steve-carell-amy-adams-join-adam-mckay-s-dick-cheney-flick-137I actually joked about Carell joining the project as Cheney not long ago, so I guess my smart-ass-but-prophetic wordplay wasn’t too far off. Needless to say this has awards buzz written all over it. Bale will once again have to completely transform himself physically, going from handsome Hollywood leading man to Darth Vader if he walked around without all his gear. All-in-all between the three of them this is shaping up to be a great film that will at least have terrific performances going for it. How these actors will bring these enigmatic figures to life is now a big reason why I wanna see it…that, and to see what Bale would look like if he was cast as The Penguin. __________________ From WeGotThisCovered.com: wegotthiscovered.com/movies/christian-bale-play-dick-cheney-adam-mckay/But, it’s the casting of Amy Adams as Lynne Cheney that really draws the attention here, as she’s one of the lesser known aspects of Cheney’s story. A powerful woman in her own right, she’s been close to running for her own political office on more than one occasion – including the Vice Presidency. Hopefully, if Adam McKay strikes the right balance with this script, we’ll have the opportunity to learn more about this fascinating, formidable woman.

EW.com: Who should play George W. Bush in Adam McKay's Dick Cheney movie? ew.com/movies/2017/04/06/who-should-play-george-w-bush-dick-cheney-movie/In The Big Short, Adam McKay chronicled the Wall Street misfits who predicted the 2008 financial collapse. With his next film, he’s jumping to the other side of the fence to tell the stories of the men in power who oversaw that crisis. ... So far, though, no one has been mentioned for another important role: Cheney’s one-time boss, President George W. Bush. In the absence of any news about casting Bush, EW has taken it upon ourselves to make some suggestions. Comedians seem like a good fit, given McKay’s experience in the genre and also the demands of playing a president who often misspoke to a comical degree. It would hard to play Bush entirely with a straight face — just ask Josh Brolin, who wore a bemused smirk for most of Oliver Stone’s W. Will Arnett demonstrated excellence at mocking the Bush family in Arrested Development (where his character’s name, G.O.B. Bluth, was a joke about the president’s brother Jeb). Woody Harrelson never met a roguish character he couldn’t make entertaining and likable. Michael Fassbender doesn’t look much like Bush, but that didn’t stop him from excelling at portraying Steve Jobs for Aaron Sorkin. Bradley Cooper has demonstrated an ability to both embody conservative American icons (in American Sniper) and work alongside Bale (in American Hustle); so long as the movie has “American” in the title, he’s probably good. Michael Keaton is a bit on the older side (especially if the 43-year-old Bale is playing Cheney) but is one the best at balancing drama and comedy. Then, of course, there’s Will Ferrell, longtime McKay collaborator and legendary George W. Bush impersonator. His candidacy might be a bit too on-the-nose, but it’s worth acknowledging.

Interesting newsbite reports Part 3: This whole piece from Bleeding Cool News is fun to read: Christian Bale Eying Return To Batman-Like Role In Dick Cheney Biopic www.bleedingcool.com/2017/04/07/christian-bale-eying-return-batman-like-role-dick-cheney-biopic/Batman is a superhero published by DC Comics, and Dick Cheney was a Vice President in Washington DC, but the two have far more in common than that when diggiging below the surface.
While Cheney was a proponent of sweeping government authority to perform surveillance even on its own citizens, Batman tapped into the cellphones of everyone in Gotham City in order to build a sonar-like system to track criminals throughout the city. While Cheney famously shot his friend in the face while hunting, Batman keeps secret plans to take down all of his friends in case they ever go rogue. While Cheney shaped President Bush’s war on terror, Batman is involved in a perpetual war on crime in Gotham City wherein he dresses up like a Batman to beat up mentally ill persons. While Batman is friends with green alien superheroes like The Martian Manhunter, Dick Cheney worked closely with Donald Rumsfeld, who is a member of an ancient race of subterranean lizard people.
Basically, the two are exactly alike. Which is why Christian Bale, who portrayed Batman in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, will be perfect for the role of Cheney in an upcoming biopic. That’s why it’s great news that Bale is reportedly in talks to accept the role, according to a report from The Failing New York Times Fake News Sad. Steve Carrell could play Rumsfeld in the film produced by Paramount and Plan B Entertainment, with Amy Adams playing Lynne Cheney. The film is written and directed by Adam McKay.
